DAY 1 UPDATE

It's been a fantastic launch to the trip with coverage of the send off by BBC Look North, BBC Radio Cumbria And Cumbria TV.

The launch event was a great success with A collection being made by members of the Rotary Clubs of Carlisle South, Carlisle Castle and Brampton & Longtown with a varied musical accompaniment by local musician Brian James.

A great send off by the Mayor of Carlisle Cllr Vasey as she came along for a short part of the journey with Paddy and me followed on in the support bus by Richard.

We collected around £80.00 in the hour and a half we had in Carlisle.

It certainly was a carnival atmosphere as we coincided with the Carlisle Foodie Fair.

Unfortunately things didn't stay so jubilant for long with long traffic jams en-route to penrith because a car had overturned.

To make matters worse Andy has broken his mobile phone so there may be a day or two until the next update.

Now happily bedded down for the night at Kendal.
