Oh we do like to be beside the seaside
Day 3
Poor old Richard kept imagining that there was someone snoring in Henrietta every night. He actually thought it was me! I think it was possibly Paddy.
It was pretty wet underfoot but the sun was shining as we prepared to leave Cartmel for our next destination, Lytham St. Annes. That’s when we discovered two of our blunders
I was concerned about getting Henrietta off the field without bogging down but in fact the problem was Henry. For the first time ever in my ownership, he stolidly refused to start. The magneto had got wet and was playing up. Eventually he coughed into life as If there had been no problem at all. It was about this time that we noticed the lack of a petrol cap on Henrietta. (Double Doh!)
We took the road through Grange over Sands that was just about wide enough for Henrietta and headed off towards the A6 stopping at the first petrol station for a temporary petrol cap and some food to keep us going.
Henry was now performing brilliantly and the only thing impeding our progress was the traffic ahead (yes ahead) particularly through Lancaster. In no time at all we were approaching Blackpool and our satnav took us down a road that was closed for repair but we soon got back on track and pulled up outside a rather tacky Irish Bar to take some pics of us near Blackpool Tower.
I’m quite glad we weren’t stopping in Blackpool as it really isn’t my scene but shortly after we arrived in Lytham St Annes which is a sort of genteel ‘maiden aunt’ to Blackpool’s ‘black sheep of the family’.
We found our destination, ‘The Vic’ and were shown to a spot in the car park that was handy for the night and accessible to get the gear in for the evening ‘gig’.
We were welcomed by Julie and Andy and later met up with Vic Heaney and Gay who had baked a wonderful cake for us. (Vic walked from SW France to NW England to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK and wrote a book about his adventures). We had a good meal and a most enjoyable gig followed.
Richard took a generous collection from the patrons.
Oh yes, it rained again
