Day 9 - Shared frequencies and sheep
Saturday at Welland got off to a dodgy start. There was a 'Sheep' show taking place nearby and unfortunately their wireless microphone shared the same frequency as mine. I was in mid song when a voice said 'G'day all you beautiful people...'.
The sound was coming through my own PA system! The presenter was a very entertaining guy from NZ but unfortunately it meant that I had to call a halt to my concert. Due to being in a poorer position than planned it meant that we had a problem gaining the public's attention which probably adversely affected the charity collection. Nonetheless it was a great day despite the odd shower and I was able to provide a bit of entertainment in between 'Sheep shows'.
At some stage in the day a red-faced New Zealander told me that his power had been cut and though he didn't say so, I have a feeling that I was a prime suspect. It wasn't me. Honest Guv!
As a number of people assumed that my name was Henry (obviously because of my happy demeanour, I took the opportunity of having "Happy Henry' painted on the Cowley's bonnet by a signwriter who was looking for business. A talented artist in his own right (he had a display of paintings on his stand behind us) he made a great job and it was a privilege to watch a good signwriter in action. No vinyl for Henry.
John and Pat, my brother in law and sister in law came up in the Daimler though I didn't get much chance to chat as it is a huge show and I was kept pretty busy most of the day. I met a few fellow vintage Morris owners too and we had a chance to compare notes and take advice on board.
A much better day financially so we retired at dusk and had an early night
